I may even cut it shorter as the warm weather progresses.   I am also on a fitness journey by cutting back back my portions, hitting the treadmill and drinking green smoothies and kettle bell workouts.

I am still doing quite a bit of bowling and working on getting even better than that.  I hope everyone have a wonderful weekend.

January 2013: The month of the Wash N Go!

This is 2nd day hair

Well I have decided to challenge myself a bit for January 2013.  I had really been wearing alot of twist outs all summer and fall and decided I was going to do all WNG for the month of January.

If my hair receives this favorably then I will push on through February and maybe March.  What I am hoping to achieve is length retention, moisturized hair, few bad ends if not none at all and a routine that is very simple and easy.

This week I started off with a Yogart/Conditioner/Oil Prepoo/Deep Conditioning then Cowashed and styled.  I used my As I am Cowash, then Aussie Moist Conditioner , rinsed 75% of Conditioner, sealed with Oil Concoction, applied a Dollop of Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie and Finished with Curly Solutions Curlkeeper.  Did not section hair but just finger detangled while conditioner was in and raked and pulled product through hair with hair flipped over and making sure to cover ever strand and end.  Shake hair, let fall in place then put clips to put a minor side part and Air dry or diffuse slightly.   This can be done at night to reduce drying time and commute to work.

My nighttime routine is to do a sort of Pineapple thingy... actually smooth hair upward, apply the scarf and spread scarf to cover and push hair upward.   In the morning, I spritz with an Aloe vera Spritz, shake and pull in to place and I am out the door.  Not a bad routine to get out the house quickly.  Incorporate that with my 5 minute makeup routine and I am Fabulous (middle pic---LOL).

I have been Natural for 4 years come the end of January and I have not once thought about perming my hair but have encouraged many to take the journey.   I have friends who still are on that " well you have good hair" tip,   Sh*t, where is my hair any better than anyone elses.  Its about learning and wanting to succeed with your own natural hair.  Finding your self and defining yourself.  Everything takes time to get used to and natural hair is a journey for all of us.

The changes that our hair goes through along with our bodies and minds.  If we don't drink water it shows in our skin, hair,. etc.  All is interrelated and as soon as we realize it a lot of things begin to come together for us.   An understanding of who we are and how we view ourselves and whether we care how others view us.  2013 will hopefully be a year of resolution of alot of financial burdens, health concerns, relationship stagnation, and the stress that all those can put on a person.  Baby Steps, Baby Steps but Get'er Done!

Looking forward to blogging more often and may eventually venture in to the youtube world and do some natural hair care/styling adventures.  Oh yeah, Next month I will be 46 and I plan on at least being a size dress down or more!   Even more Fabulous at 46!

Have a Blessed Weekend!

Happy New Year 2013 - 4 YEARS NATURAL

I know, I know its been a long time and I will try to do better.  I promise in 2013.  Alot but Nothing has been going on with me since I last posted.  I still need to lose the pounds that I gained, my hair is growing and I am still trying to take care of it as best as I can.

Just wanted to jump in and post a few pics to start the new year.  I have decided to do WNG styling for the entire month of January 2013 with refreshing every 2 days and deep conditioning Once a week.  I want to see how my hair reacts to what I am doing.  Of course it is Winter in Maryland and the weather can be harsh, but I have done WNG's all winter before and my hair never suffered.   The only difference is that back then I used products that did have Dimethicone (Herbal Essence ).

Well I have picked up the cones again for this winter but also using the LOC method to loc the moisture in under those cones...LMBO.  I have been using the Aussie Moist Conditioner after using the As I AM Naturally Cowash.   I then Rinse 50% of the conditioner, Add some Oil Concoction(Rosemary, Grapeseed, Argan, Olive Oil, peppermint, Black Castor oil) and then a dollop of Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie then Finish with some Liquid Gel (Curl Keeper by Curly Solutions/Curls In a Bottle by Curl Junkie).  I still would like to restrict using any Shampoo to Once a month if needed.  I have never had a problem with Build up of cones in my hair and for the most part I still limit my usage of them.  I think the cones, as long as I Moisturize under and over, will help protect my hair from the harsh winter.

Let's see if I can get positive results all January and may push through February.  I am doing my WNG at night and doing the pineapple method or just the satin pillow case.  This results in lightly damp roots that I diffuse or blow slightly for 2 mins tops.

Well for now, here are a few pics over the past month.  I even straightened my hair after 3 1/2 yrs of no flatironing or wearing straight.  I do still love my twist outs as well but will be resuming after this small challenge.

Hair Growth Since March 30, 2012 Cut!

Hello everyone,

Just posting some photos of my hair growth since getting it cut on March 30, 2012.   I haven't been doing much except twistouts and wash n go's most of the summer and my hair seems to be thriving from it.  I have bought very few products except recently the Entwine Couture Auditioning Kit and Carol's Daughter healthy Hair butter.  I have not used the Entwine products as of this posting.

I have been using the Carols Daughter Healthy Hair Butter to Seal in Moisture and keep definition to my twist outs without having to re-apply product when twisting.   My hair routine of locking in the moisture during my wash sessions by using the LOC method has helped.   The Healthy hair butter really allows me to hold on to the moisture several days at a time.  I may apply the product on Saturday and may retwist nightly with maybe a slight mist of spritz or none at all and the definition with a slight hold has been great.   I am still in love with my Shea Moisture CES and Curling Souffle Combo as well but for now have been using the Healthy Hair butter regularly.

It is almost time to see how with the weather changing (low humidity) how to maintain that same moisture that we love during the warmer more humid months.   I did crack out my steamer on my last wash day and enjoyed impeccable hair for over a week & 1/2.

I am enjoying my hair as it is dense, dark and healthy.   The other week I had made an appointment to get a semi permanent black but when traveling there I looked in my mirror and noticed that my hair was very dark and saved my $40.  Those couple of grays and that patch near my right hairline is not a problem for me at all.  It cooperates with the rest of my hair fairly nicely.

I am experimenting with a few updo's with pins, combs and banana clips.  I am still using my twistouts to enhance the texture and keep my hair from tangling and it seems to be working great.   I always get compliments from Non-Naturals as to the many styles that I create and different looks.

Hope everyone has a pleasant Week!

2 Weeks and Haven't Washed My Hair

two strand twists

I know the title grabbed a bit of your attention and yes, I have not washed my hair in over 2 weeks.
My hair is still responding as well as my scalp is Itch Free.   That may be because I have not overwhelmed my hair with a bunch of product.

I started off with a normal twist out and one day at the McDonald's Drive through began to twist my hair.  I must say that my twists on dry without any extra product were very plush and soft.   Of course that meant that they only lasted for me about a week before I decided to do a twist out.  I did moisturize my twists within the first week with a bit of Oyin hair Dew and some Aloe Vera gel and some Jojoba oil on the ends.   I am really falling in love again with the Jojoba and Vitamin E oils.

My hair begun to get a little (lot) fuzzy in the twist and so I decided to twist out and did not do any retwisting.   My hair has transformed in to an afro. with curls.

I have been so lazy this week and as long as the hair was moisturized I just have not cared to primp the style.   I haven't even worn my bonnet in the last 3 nights.

Of course this laziness will not continue and I will be doing my hair tonight!  I have to bowl Wednesday and Thursday and know it is going to be a long night so I will not have time to do it either of those days.

I tell you,  I am glad I work for a Black Owned Company.  People do not look at you strangely if every hair is not in its place.  Every Woman in this office except for one person is a Woman of color and Natural.   What are the odds of that happening.  Even my CEO who is a BLACK WOMAN has a very short TWA and is Beautiful.

I enjoy the freedom that comes in an environment like that.  You are allowed to be You.

Well I will put pics up of my hair after wash day.  Also, BTW, I am putting crochet braids in my daughters hair this week and will include a pic of her hair as well.

The Twists that make My Twist outs!

These are the twists that I do nightly to prepare my hair for bed.  I then adorn a satin bonnet and nighty night I go.  It takes me about 30 mins to put these in.  I usually donot use any product just start grabbing smoothing and twisting while I watch TV.  (2012 Olympics).

2nd day hair before fluffing & puffing
My hair is responding very well to the twist outs and the products that I am currently using.

I stopped by my local Rite Aid and was FLOORED

I could not believe they had an entire isle for Ethnic hair which included products from Kinky Curly to  Jane Carters to Nothing But to Curls Unleashed to Lustrasilk.   They had products I had never heard of or tried.   Of course the product junkie in me wanted to purchase... but I resisted and bought My Laxatives and Arizona Tea.   I shall return!
